These are a few of my favorite things
I was going to post for a few days now some of Chris' Most Recommended websites/webapps. I just listened to an Onion newsflash, and had to share it... and might as well add in my few other fav sites too.

I know this one is a little long... I embedded a little of that Chris Fun Wit Humor in each paragraph to spice it up.

It is fake news. But they are damn hilarious. Obsecure, not always "PC" humor. Perfect for me.
This example is what had me in stitches this morning, take a lesson:
Have's Aquire Have-Nots in $3.6 Trillion Dollar Deal

If you are a podcaster type... they have both audio & video podcasts in Itunes. I always look forward to them.

Jott www.jott.com
This one I've been itching to let everyone know about. It's definitely one of those useful tools. Picture says it all. For someone like me, who constantly has a mile long To Do list, and needs to write everything down before its quickly forgotten, invaluable. Set up your free account, then all you do is call the Jott number (put it on speeddial for more ease), and it asks you:

1. who do you want to Jott. Answer "Myself"
2. Okay, BEEP. "Write blog about Jott, it's awesome. And buy some of those new fangled penny candies at the corner store".
3. Do you want a reminder? "No". Hang up.

About 10 seconds later it emails you a text transcription of what you said. If it didn't quite understand, it will say in the email that it is possibly wrong. It always includes a link to the voice file also so you can listen later. Awesome. Free. Instant to do lists. I made about 20 items on my last drive back from Phoenix, and about 10 the other night at 1am, when I didn't realy want to get out of bed to write down "finish taxes tomorrow". Seriously, I wouldn't think to these things unless they are in front of me.

YouMail www.youmail.com
I've been using this one awhile. Some of you know this, because when you call me, and get your specialized voicemail greeting that says "The Person you are trying to call has been abducted by ... aliens".

It replaces your default, cell phone provider voicemail. There's a few steps, but all fairly easy. You sign up online, again free. You can record your own greeting, or use one of hundreds of free ones they have. The reason you want to use this? You can set personalized greetings. You ad people to your address book online, and when the system sees their number, it plays their greeting. So a normal person might have messages like "Hi Mom, I am glad you called. Please leave a message" and "Hey fuckhead, thanks for finally calling me. Plan on paying up that $5 bucks you owe me?". I instead just went with using my Alien greeting for anyone I know well enough that it won't throw them and they realize it's my sense of humor. For everyone else, it just plays a standard greeting.

If you have people you really want to disuade from calling you again, they even have ones you can select that go "the number you are calling is no longer in service", the official sounding one. It's just a voicemail recording, but the person getting it would probably be thrown, and assume it to be true.

Other bonus, you can listen to your voicemails online if you choose. Manage them online, save them, archieve them, even email them.

Other thing which I like - you set how it notifies you. I set mine to text message. That way if I get a voicemail and don't want to have the little icon sitting on my phone constantly until I listen, I don't. I get a text, I delete it, and I listen to my voicemail when I want, without the phone constantly beckoning to me "listen.... listennn... you have new mail".

Skype www.skype.com

Free computer to computer VOIP. Call someone in Japan, I dont' care it's free. Granted, you can do this now via MSN, Yahoo, etc. Big deal.

Okay, one step further. Spend a few bucks and you can get Skype In and Skype Out.

Skype In: You get a real, 10 digit phone number in your area code of choosing. So you can give it out, people call it, and it rings your computer. The little box pops up and tells you who is calling, and you answer... and you talk. Obviously having a headset for your computer helps immensely.

Skype Out: You can call a 10 digit phone number. I think it was $25 for the year, and I have unlimited calling. No catches. Call Japan and talk for hours on end to Hiro about the homeless situation over there, have a heated debate, call him a liar, a thief and a charleton, and then hang up. (we made up later, although i think our differences about hobos will never be resolved).

Efax www.efax.com

Been around for years. Free faxing online. Get your free fax number. The catch is you can't pick your area code. Mine is 407, I don't even know where the hell that is. Who cares? How often do I receive a fax? Almost never. But if I DO need to receive one, I have a number. People fax it, and a few mins later, I get a PDF in my email of what they faxed.

Pay for an account if you want to choose your area code, and also have the ability to send faxes. Is great, upload your PDF, word doc, whatever, enter the number, and it faxes away. Great for people who do not have a land line, such as myself.

That's it for now captains... these turned out to be more productivity type of tools.... but they are what I use most. I could post about all the blogs I follow, the podcasts I watch, the documentaries I've been seeing lately... but I'll spare everyone for now.
